Message from the President Fall 2009
As many of you may already be aware of, at the most recent council meeting it was voted to hire an outside Marketing firm to promote and market bowls throughout the USA. It was also voted to discontinue the publication of Bowls USA due to the extreme financial publishing costs as well as the timeliness of articles contained in the issues.
Another item that became a large topic of conversation and finally a vote was the issue of our yearly dues. The council voted to increase the dues for membership in the USLBA to $20.00 yearly instead of the current $10.00 yearly. This will take effect as of January 1, 2010. While this may seem like a large increase, we should all realize that the dues for the USLBA have not been increased for at least 10-15 years (possibly longer) and it is really long overdue. If you break down the $20.00 into 12 months it comes to less than $1.70 per month to belong to the USLBA. A small price to pay for the right to bowl anywhere in the world as well as any divisional or national US tournaments. Your USLBA membership allows you to bowl in any World Bowls member country throughout the world. This is less than the price of a cup of coffee in most places.
It is my hope that you will all continue to support the USLBA and its subsidiaries (Golden Bias and Memorial Fund). Without your support and continued interest the sport as we know it faces demise within the US. Hopefully, we will continue some of the popular article that have been in Bowls USA in the website. Some of the items that appear to be popular are Better Bowls, for ideas in improving our game, Super Shots, where we hear of those that have managed to score 7 to 9 shots in 1 end, as well as reports from our teams that participate overseas.
Also, hopefully every division will create and update their individual websites so that their division and club news is available to all members on a regular and current basis.
Respectfully,
Isabella “Izzie” Forbes, President
